Rangi people live all over Tanzania, many of them in cities like Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, and Arusha. Many have access to the internet. The Rangi Translators decided to try connecting with them, using a group on Facebook.

“The group is called ‘We speak Rangi’,” said Kijuu, one of the Translators. “It was meant to be just a fun place for us to show people that our language is written down.”

The team had no idea of the far-reaching effects it would have.

“Later, a Rangi man showed up at our office,” said Kijuu. “He was eager to understand how to write and read Rangi. The only contact he had had with us was through that Facebook group! Now he wants to write a paper himself, on how to bring more development to the Rangi community.”
